I started swimming for the first time in years after being diagnosed with high blood pressure. The first time I stepped into a chlorinated pool and set foot in the deep end, it reminded me of my childhood nightmare…my mum hot combing my hair! I’m sure many black women share similar memories.

It all started when I realized that there was no suitable hair protection product out there for my friends and I who have big afros, locks or weaves. We either had to stuff our hair into two swimming caps which damaged the edges and hair or not swim at all. I suddenly thought about designing a unique product that would enable everyone to swim and ultimately improve their health.

Inspired by my mums love of headscarves and my friends’ experiences with swim caps that didn’t accommodate their voluminous hair, I designed a cap that would accommodate all types of hair and protect it from damaging chemicals. Hair is extremely important, so I used the best technology in swim wear to create a cap that is sleek, looks great and keeps your hair dry.

I wanted to get people of all hair types into the pool and not to dread what swimming will do to their hair, like I did.
